Working on Christmas Gifts

Some samples of work I have been doing along with a little knitting.
Trying not to over do it but sometimes it is easier to make something than spend a lot of money.  I hope they will appreciate the gifts I've made.

Yarn Cakes and More!

Lack of blogging often means too much going on with life for me to sit down and write a post.
Bear with me as we trundle through the holidays!
First picture is of yarn cakes! Oh how they make my heart sing! All thanks to my wonderful sister Mary for thinking of me and it was a birthday gift. I've been using this non-stop, it is addicting! And to think all those years, I thought I could just do it all by hand. What was I thinking?!

Second picture are of Hexagons I am working on for my daughter's bedspread. They are so fast and fun, I've begun to love crochet even more now. Hopefully they will be finished soon so I can keep her nice and warm during this winter.

Third picture is a finished product, "My So Called Scarf" found on ravelry and it is a very easy knit. It just took me a long time because let's just say, I have about 20 WIP's and I tend to put one down, work on another for a while, put it down then work on something else. Yep, that's my habit.

I hope to get into sewing more as the holidays approach... it will be needed as it is a soothing balm for my nerves!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Belated Halloween and Birthday Gift

Happy Belated Halloween. Just wanted to show you our pumpkin face! We all collaborated on it together, everyone from aged 5 to 35 and we picked the best features of our drawings. It was then combined to make this silly pumpkin!

On the fiber front, I had just an evening to whip up something for a 5 year old boy whose birthday we missed, but still wanted to give him a little handmade something.
This is a crocheted rainbow scarf, sorry for the terrible picture but it's the best I can do with the low light we've had lately.

The inspiration came from this website.. I loved reading her blog all the way to the beginning. Highly recommended for a good read if you are ever bored or just simply don't want to do housework.

For the Love of Crochet

I always knew how to crochet, it's just that knitting took to the forefront of my love affair with fiber. In a way, I'm glad to rediscover crochet because it is so soothing and quick when you need an instant gratification. Never will I look down on crochet again. I will hold it up to the same awe that I hold for knitting.

Queen Anne's Lace Scarf.. super duper quick. Crocheted in one day and on size I hooks with Moda Dea Cartwheel yarn. Probably will go in the gift closet. Or I may just wear it!

Chrysanthemum dish cloth pattern. Have to say this, I've always been a square girl! Finally broke out of my mold and found this very satisfying to do as well! Fun and different makes for a quick night of crocheting! I really think Crochet needs to to have it's name changed. Maybe "hooking" But then that would mean something dirty. Crochet to me sounds as if I'm saying Crotchety Old People! Oh well, we'll just love it as it is. Thank you Crochet for a nice quiet evening!

Cheaters Quilt

A friend of ours had a baby girl a few weeks ago and feeling like one gift just wasn't going to cut it, I opted to do a fast quilt. I call it my cheaters quilt because I don't actually piece a quilt top together. I just slap two pieces of fabric and batting together then quilt it. Try to find a fabric that has a design almost similar to a quilt top, in this case.. I used a fabric that looked like it had squares of different fabrics sewn together but is actually the design of the fabric. EASY PEASY. Completed in one night and then did the binding the next day.

Bombay Love

This was designed by a talented crocheter from India. I love the name, and most of all I love the pattern! It is the first time I've seen a crochet pattern that was seamless from the top down. Fast, easy, and uses less than one skein of main color, plus scraps for the trim. Here's the pattern Bombay Love.

Used Plymouth Encore Worsted Weight in purple, Lion Brand Wool-Ease in Wheat. They compliment each other very nicely and this is for a special baby girl to be born sometime soon!
Size 5.5mm or "I" Crochet hook. Completed in one day. LOVE IT!
